Demi Minneapolis

Overview

Demi Minneapolis sits quietly in the North Loop, yet the experience inside feels anything but quiet. The restaurant is tucked into 212 N 2nd St Suite 100, Minneapolis, MN 55401, United States, and from the moment you step through the door, it’s clear this place runs on intention. I’ve eaten at chef’s counters before, but this one feels personal in a way that sticks with you long after the last plate is cleared.

The setup is simple: a small dining room, a curved counter, and a front-row seat to the kitchen. Watching the team work is half the experience. During my visit, each dish came together with calm precision, no wasted movement, no theatrics. That focus shows up on the menu, which changes often and leans heavily on seasonal ingredients. Servers explain each course in plain language, which makes even complex techniques easy to understand without feeling like a lecture.

One thing that stood out immediately was how the tasting menu balances creativity with comfort. You’ll see refined techniques like fermentation, dry-aging, and careful sauce reductions, but the flavors stay grounded. A dish built around local carrots tasted unmistakably like carrots, just elevated. This approach lines up with broader culinary research showing that diners tend to

This place was great. Very high attention to detail in the food and by all the staff members. We were greated at the door with a free coat check and a bartender to order a cocktail before we were seated. The entire experience lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes, which I found to be a bit long. Nonetheless, the meal is more of an experience where you sit around the kitchen area and see the chefs prepare your food. There seemed to be two waves of seating throughout the night so most people in the restaurant ate the same courses together. In total there were about 12 plates. Each dish was small and elevated, but we were more than full by the end of the evening. I recommend dining here if you're looking to celebrate a special occasion or are a foodie who appreciates quality.

We had a lovely dinner here with thoughtfully arranged courses that tasted incredible. Having been to other tasting courses in the Twin Cities, Demi is definitely a step above and has become our favorite restaurant. The staff even presented us with a take home menu and personalized message. If you’re looking to celebrate with a special night out or want to bring someone to a restaurant that will exceed expectations, look no further than Demi.

An Unforgettable Culinary Experience! Demi is, without question, one of the finest dining experiences I have ever had—and that includes several Michelin-starred restaurants. From start to finish, everything was exceptional. The food was absolutely phenomenal, with each course thoughtfully crafted and executed to perfection. The service was attentive, polished, and personal without ever feeling intrusive. What truly sets Demi apart is the experience itself—an intimate and exclusive setting with seating for only about twenty guests, where you can watch the chefs skillfully prepare each dish right in front of you. The cocktails and wine pairings were equally outstanding, complementing the flavors beautifully. Demi is not just a meal; it’s a culinary performance. Every detail is intentional, every bite memorable. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough.

The food is amazing and we had one demi pairing and one temperance pairing. Perfect for trying a lot of new drinks and sharing. I loved the Temperance pairing of infusions and spiced drinks. I enjoyed them so much I would choose it over the wine. It was a great variety. A wide variety in the selection for the tasting. I would go there again to try out the menus in different seasons. They brought me a little special treat at the end for my birthday.

This restaurant, a Relais & Châteaux property, aspires to, and achieves a standard few kitchens in America can match. It is, in many ways, the closest I have encountered to the perfection of Chef Thomas Keller owner of the famed The French Laundry. At Demi, Chef Gavin Kaysen leads a rigorous kitchen with the generosity of a great host. His staff contacted me the morning of our reservation to confirm my wife’s semi vegetarian eating preferences. The name Gavin Kaysen was familiar to me, as we have eaten at Mara at the four seasons many times after staying there for a concert or baseball game. What was amazing was it was only days before our reservation that I happened upon his triumph on Chopped All-Stars, where he cooked for the sake of his Charity and gave his winnings to the Children’s Cancer Research Fund. His televised victory, impressive though it was, did little to foreshadow the rarefied discipline and generosity with his time that I would observe in person. From the arc of the horseshoe counter, we watched a kitchen in synchronized motion: cooks moving with unspoken coordination, sauces placed with precision, garnishes set artistically on each plate. The food was a narrative of flavor, texture, and restraint; It was not heavily influenced by seasoning. It was rich and unique. The small, almost secret surprises between courses and the wine pairings, each deepened the quality of the evening. What lingers, though, is not just the cuisine, but the generous spirit behind it. At the peak of first service, with every seat in the room filled and the kitchen at full tilt, Kaysen and I caught eyes and he paused to step over and join us for a few moments. It was not a gesture of obligation but of genuine curiosity and warmth, a reminder that great dining is not solely about what is on the plate but who stands behind it. This is a restaurant I would choose without hesitation to host clients, friends, or any special guest I wished to see experience a level of elegance, not often seen in Minneapolis. Mr. Kaysen told me about his next project on the horizon in Naples, I suspect my future travel plans may soon be shaped not by destination, but by his kitchen.

If you are ready to spend a crazy amount on dinner, go to Demi as it is worth every penny. Took my son (Aug 2025) to send him of for study abroad and to celebrate his birthday I’d miss while he was gone. He is a super adventurous eater and each course was delicious and gorgeous. Staff were welcoming and we loved the non-alcoholic mocktails and wines. I missed photos of some courses, but you’ll get the idea. ENJOY!

A Masterclass in Hospitality and Culinary Artistry Demi delivered an extraordinary dining experience. From the moment we walked in, the staff demonstrated an attentive, informed, and genuinely present style of service that I have not experienced since Japan. Every interaction felt intentional and gracious without being intrusive, knowledgeable without being rehearsed. The menu was luxurious, beautifully paced, and executed with impeccable precision. Each course carried its own identity, yet flowed seamlessly into the next, and the level of detail in both presentation and flavor was astounding. It’s rare to find a team so aligned in their craft, where the culinary vision and the service experience elevate one another to this degree. If you’re seeking a dining experience that marries thoughtfulness, refinement, and true hospitality, Demi is unmatched. An unforgettable evening.

The food and service were unbelievable. One of the best meals I’ve had in my life. I knocked one point off due to the reserve wine pairing. This adds $95 per person; all but one of the wines was white, and we learned once we received the details at the end that most of the bottles were less than $30/bottle. Despite this, I would happily eat here again - the food was divine!
